EDES 501 SEM 800

This course, taught within an online environment, provides opportunity for graduate level students to engage with the rich and challenging complexities of music teaching and learning in K-12 from a variety of contemporary perspectives. Topics such as musical knowing and identity, social justice and cultural diversity, the processes of pedagogy and technology in music education, and teachers as researchers invite students to critically reflect on their current teaching practice in regards to student access, curriculum design, repertoire choice, and student evaluation.

Weekly, synchronous online discussions take place on Monday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. using Adobe Connect on eClass from any location of student’s choosing. Online readings and assignments may be accessed through eClass at any time during the six-week course. Online activities in this course will help K-12 music teachers gain new lenses through which to innovate, interpret, and lead in their profession.
