Are you interested in design as an agent of powerful societal critique and change?

Critical design questions the traditional practice of design as an affirmative, reactive, and consumerist focused practice; it repositions design as an active and critical process. In this course you will investigate these changing possibilities for design. You will reposition design to begin at the deliberate identification of problems, followed by intentional problem solving. You will engage in an exploratory process of questioning, rather than answering. In doing so you will challenge existing realms of power becoming, as a designer, a critical force.

This course takes advantage of the histories, spaces, and places of Berlin as a center for critical practice and experimentation. Studio time will be complemented with expeditions interrogating contemporary practice and working with designers, practitioners and studios in the city.

This course is offered as part of the e3 in Berlin Summer Program.
