The Office of the Registrar is currently recruiting UAlberta Ambassadors for the 2017-2018 school year. If you are a returning student who loves meeting new people, here is a great opportunity to gain volunteer experience and show your UAlberta pride! Apply by February 20, 2017.

UAlberta Ambassadors are student volunteers who help show past, present, and future members of the UAlberta community why our institution is a great place to be. Approximately 80 UAlberta students represent our university in a variety of ways: 

  • Lead campus tours and on-campus experiences for prospective students and their families, as well as teachers, counsellors, alumni and the general public through the University of Alberta’s Campus Visit Program.
  • Provide service triage and welcome guests to Student Connect.
  • Represent the University of Alberta at various events on and off-campus, such as The President’s Society Dinner, Alumni Weekend, Open House, Pride Week, and more!

UAlberta Ambassador — Roles and Responsibilities

This position is suitable for current UAlberta students who want to get involved and share their passion for the University of Alberta with others! Volunteering an average of three hours a week, you will participate in: 

  • Campus Tours: Lead General Campus Tours, Lister Residence Tours, and Sustainability Campus Tours as part of the Campus Visit Program for prospective students, alumni, and guests. 
  • Service Triage: Welcome guests to Student Connect, the Office of the Registrar’s student service centre. Triage student inquires, provide assistance accessing resources, and help refer guests to the correct services and offices across campus. 
  • Community Engagement: Represent the U of A at on and off-campus events throughout the year including Alumni Weekend, The President’s Society Dinner, Pride Week, and many more. Facilitate engaging experiences for prospective students at Open House, the largest recruitment event of the year. 
UAlberta Ambassadors can also hold one of the following titles:

  • Aboriginal UAlberta Ambassador: This role has the same responsibilities as all UAlberta Ambassadors, but also provides specific leadership for these experiences when Aboriginal students or groups visit North Campus. 
  • International UAlberta Ambassador: This role has the same responsibilities as all UAlberta Ambassadors, but also provides specific leadership for these experiences when international students or groups visit North Campus.

Senior UAlberta Ambassador — Roles and Responsibilities

This position is suitable for current UAlberta students who have previous volunteer and leadership experience, and would like to expand those skills while sharing their passion for the University of Alberta with others! 

Volunteering an average of five hours a week, you will participate in campus tours, service triage, and community engagement (listed above), as well as: 

  • Program Support: Help recruit, interview, and train UAlberta Ambassadors and provide leadership at university-wide events throughout the year. You will work closely with staff to ensure the continual development and improvement of the program. 
  • Team Leadership: Support, mentor, and coach a team of UAlberta Ambassadors by leading meetings, providing professional development, and organizing community-building events. Develop these skills at a leadership retreat with your fellow Senior UAlberta Ambassadors. 
In addition to the availability requirements listed below, Senior UAlberta Ambassadors must also be available for the following:

  • Senior UAlberta Ambassador Retreat: May 1-3, 2017 
  • Senior UAlberta Ambassador Fall Training: September 1, 2017 
Senior UAlberta Ambassadors can also hold one of the following titles:

  • Senior Aboriginal UAlberta Ambassador: This role has the same responsibilities as all Senior UAlberta Ambassadors, but also provides specific leadership at events for Aboriginal students or groups visiting North Campus and support our Aboriginal UAlberta Ambassadors as needed. 
  • Senior International UAlberta Ambassador: This role has the same responsibilities as all UAlberta Ambassadors, but also provides specific leadership at events for international students or groups visiting North Campus and support our International UAlberta Ambassadors as needed.

Program Requirements

UAlberta Ambassadors and Senior UAlberta Ambassadors must be: 

  • Current students in good academic standing (minimum 2.0 GPA); 
  • Excellent public speakers and communicators; 
  • Able to commit a minimum of three hours per week. 
The UAlberta Ambassador Program is a year-long volunteer commitment, from May 2017 to April 2018 (exceptions made for study abroad, co-op, and practicum placements). There are a number of events that UAlberta Ambassadors will be required to attend throughout the year. Before you apply, please check your calendar to ensure you are available!

  • UAlberta Ambassador Welcome Lunch: April 13, 2017 (12 p.m. - 2 p.m.) 

Summer 2017

The summer season is one of the busiest for the Campus Visit Program; however, if you are not available in the summer due to prior commitments but still wish to participate in the Fall/Winter Terms, please indicate so on your application and we will try to accommodate you. 

  • UAlberta Ambassador Summer Training: May 6-7, 2017 
  • Summer Ambassador Team Meetings: June 21 and August 9, 2017 

Fall 2017 / Winter 2018

Availability and participation in the Fall and Winter Terms is required. 

  • UAlberta Ambassador Fall Training: September 9, 10 and 16, 2017 
  • Open House Training: October 20, 2017 
  • Open House: October 21, 2017 
  • Full Team Meetings:
    • November 26, 2017
    • January 14, 2018
    • February 11, 2018
    • March 25, 2018
